Abstract

Procedure for horse catching during racing meetings.

PROCEDURE

  1. On race days a group shall be appointed to catch a horse in case of its escape.
  2. The team designated to catch a horse is appointed by the leader of the meeting.
  3. It is forbidden to catch horses in the raceway area between the stands. If a team designated to catch horses is already in that area of the raceway, it is its duty to take up a position at the outer fence in order to force the horses to move as far away from the outer fence of the raceway as possible.
  4. The gatekeeper and two persons from the group catching a horse during race days are equipped with shortwave transmitters. Persons who have shortwave transmitters shall inform the gatekeeper about every horse escape.
  5. The team catching a horse is equipped with four rings, four ropes, four halters and a long tape or a long rope.
  6. The gatekeeper located at the main gate is obliged to check if any horse is on the entry route to the Wrocław-Partynice Horse Racecourse during race days.
  7. On race days, two persons are designated together with a car equipped with a trailer intended for horse transport. The designated persons should catch a horse outside the premises of the Wrocław-Partynice Horse Racecourse.
  8. The driver for the team catching horses outside the premises of the Wrocław-Partynice Horse Racecourse is appointed by the manager of the Technical Infrastructure and Administration Department.
  9. In the event of a horse escaping from the premises of the Wrocław-Partynice Horse Racecourse, the manager of the Technical Infrastructure and Technical Administration Department is obliged to immediately inform the police and the municipal police about the occurrence.

 

W-2 OHS instructions applicable to introducing the horses to the starting gate

Abstract

Occupational health and safety instructions for introducing horses to the starting gate during the racing meeting.

ACTIVITIES BEFORE THE COMMENCEMENT OF WORK

The person authorised to introduce horses into the starting gate may only be a sober employee with valid medical examinations without contraindications to perform work, trained in this respect and in the scope of health and safety rules, employed by the Wrocław-Partynice Horse Racecourse, an employee indicated by the co-organiser of horse racing or a person representing the owner of a horse competing in a race, who should have valid medical examinations without contraindications to perform work with horses or should submit a declaration of absence of such contraindications and be trained in the scope of OHS rules.

ACTIVITIES DURING WORK

  1. The introduction of horses to the starter gate boxes can only take place under the supervision of an authorised starter or trainer.
  2. The entry of horses to the starting gate during training takes place after the riders on horses have approached the starting gate and have notified the trainer that they are ready to introduce the horses to the starting gate.
  3. For horses that are introduced to the starting gate during races, the starting judge must give the command for this to happen.
  4. Persons introducing horses to the starting gate should be particularly careful when closing the front door so that the horse trying to get out of the machine does not run down the person who has introduce it to the gate. Persons introducing horses are required to wear protective headgear (a certified helmet) and a protective vest.
  5. An additional person is required who will close the back door when the horses enters the starting gate boxes. They are also obliged to take special care and wear protective headgear (a certified helmet) and a protective vest.

ACTIVITIES AFTER WORK COMPLETION

  1. Upon the receipt of an order from the starting/training judge, all horse riders located at the front door must immediately leave the starting line by moving to the side, after which the front door will be released, and the start will take place.

HOW TO PROCEED IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

  1. In case of doubts as to the manner of work performance, the employee should contact his or her immediate superior.
  2. Any accidents at work should be immediately notified to the immediate superior.
